In this interview Sandra Trittin shares her journey from growing up in rural Germany, to becoming an energy sector entrepreneur, starting one of Europe’s first virtual power plants that connected residential assets and optimised their usage against energy market needs. She reflects on leadership as a “cake” made of ingredients including courage, luck, support, fun, willingness to change, commitment, reflection, patience, and trusting your gut. Sandra argues that while the technology and capital for the energy transition already exists, the sector remains overly risk-averse; what’s most needed now is courage to act quickly. Her motivation remains deeply personal: she believes digitalisation and flexibility are essential to building a sustainable energy system for future generations—and that listening to one’s inner compass at key moments is often what makes the biggest difference.
