2016 C3E Reception
Monday 30 May
The Hawthorn Club had the pleasure of hosting an event with the C3E Awardees and Ambassadors at the Il Fornaio in Palo Alto, CA.
Networking and providing support among women who strive towards a clean energy future is a key theme to both organizations. The attendees of the event heard from Nancy Pfund, Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Partners, and Melanie Kenderdine, Director of the Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis at the Department of Energy. Their speeches gave an overview of the importance of women being the next wave of leaders in the clean energy sector. The dinner event was a wonderful way to have women with similar aspirations connect before the C3E event at Stanford.
The Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) initiative was launched by the 24-government Clean Energy Ministerial in 2010. The initiative was born out of recognition that the ideas and talents of all members of society are essential to meeting our future clean energy challenges. Women make up substantially less than half of the workforce in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields and across the clean energy sector. Closing the gender gap and increasing women’s participation and leadership in these fields are the goals of the U.S. C3E program, led by the Department of Energy in collaboration with the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) and the Stanford Precourt Institute for Energy.
